Dezita began her career as a nurse cadet, later becoming an Operating Department Practitioner in 2006. She now serves as Associate Professor- Pre-Qualifying Practice and is the Academic Lead for Apprenticeships for the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Birmingham City University. She is an authentic leader and lifelong learning advocate, recognised for being a catalyst for change within clinical practice, perioperative education, and academia. She has served on committees and boards including The Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons, The British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons and the Association for Perioperative Practice. She also provides mentorship to young adults and emerging leaders. She has received numerous awards, including Emerging Leader of the Year, RWT Royal Award for Exceeding Expectations, RWT CEO Individual Award, The BCU Deans Award, The Student Nursing Times Nursing Associate Programme Provider of the Year, and most recently, The Sir Lenny Henry Inclusivity Award.
