Matron for older adults

I have been a qualified nurse for 24 years. 20 years of this experience has been working with Older Adults. I have been Matron for Older Adults for the last 3 years. This is the largest department with our trust with 160 beds across 6 wards and 1 Frail Elderly Assessment Unit. Since being in post, I have introduced the Diversional Therapists, and this pilot achieved a HSJ award last year for the Patient Safety Pilot Project of the year and a Nursing Times award for Care of the Older person. It has also seen me present the pilot on an NHSE webinar and I am now on the task and finish group for the Enhanced Therapeutic Observations and Care as part of NHSE. Most recently I presented to the Johns Hopkins virtual conference in America about the Diversional Therapist pilot to over 100 delegates. Winning the Nursing Times award last year with my team was a highlight of my career and I feel honoured to be asked to judge this year’s category – I look forward to seeing the entries for the awards this year!
