Dr Bill Whitehead is deputy dean of the College of Health and Social Care, University of Derby. The college has more than 130 academic staff supporting over 2000 students. The programmes consist of undergraduate and post-graduate: occupational therapy, therapeutic arts, counselling and psychotherapy, social work, youth work, nursing, nursing associate, radiography, sonography, practice educator and assistant practitioner pre-qualification programmes. The academic range is from foundation degree to PhD and professional doctorates. The college of Health and Social Care has an active research centre and Bill has a particularly interest in the organisational structures within the healthcare industry related to supporting newly qualified nurses and practice and clinical education in general. Bill has written many articles and has recently co-authored an Open University Press book: Transition to Nursing: Preparation for Practice. He worked in clinical practice for 18 years and has been a university nurse academic since 2005.
