As CEO of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Prof Judith Ellis MBE heads an organisation with over 17,000 members worldwide. She began nursing on the wards of St Thomas’s Hospital, London 35 years ago, and, after a degree and masters, took a PhD at the University of Central Lancashire. Her career embraces frontline nursing, academia, management and policy making, including nursing officer at the Department of Health, director of nursing at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and pro-vice chancellor at London South Bank University. Her research interests have ranged from the evaluation of quality improvement tools, dementia awareness training, transitional care for young people and broader child health topics. She is chair of the Tropical Health Education Trust and chaired the Help 4 Hurting Children charity, both charities involved in developing international partnerships to educate health professionals in low income countries. She was awarded an MBE in 1998.
