Debra qualified in 1986 and holds a Masters Degree in advanced practice in learning disability nursing. She has enjoyed a varied career working in a range of settings from community to secure care and in senior operational and clinical roles. In 2000 she became one of the first consultant nurses in the UK and has held the post of Nursing Officer to the Department of Health alongside membership within the Ministerial Task Force. In later years she has focused on organisational development, strategy and quality including undertaking an independent review of Castlebeck Services post Winterbourne View Scandal. Expert in personalisation, strong partnership with people who use services and their families is always central to her work. She currently provides leadership to the Transforming Care programme within St Andrews Healthcare. Debra is a representative on the RCN Learning Disability Forum and a Fellow of the RSA.
