Maxine began her nurse training at St Bartholomew’s in London in the 1980s, before starting her nursing career at St Mark’s Colorectal Hospital. Her clinical background is colorectal gastroenterology nursing. She has a Masters in Nursing and her dissertation was a published model of care. She has worked in the West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust since 1999 and moved into the Deputy chief nurse position in 2014. Maxine has led on a number of initiatives related to workforce, education and quality that include the introduction of the assistant practitioners, a nursing audit system called Test Your Care, which monitors standards of care. During this time she has developed interests in quality indicators/metrics including a ward accreditation scheme and is also a champion of “lean” healthcare initiatives and quality improvements, such as enhanced recovery in surgery and improvements in infection control, safeguarding and practice related to pressure ulcers and falls. She is currently working at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust as a deputy director of nursing.
