Director of nursing and infection prevention & control

Julie was appointed as Director of Nursing and Infection Prevention & Control in 2020 and has held several senior roles within The Christie after joining as a specialist nurse in 2005, moving into governance and quality in 2007.
Julie is Trust lead for CQC compliance and supported the organisation to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating in 2016, repeated again in 2018. She also participated in the comprehensive inspection programme as a Specialist Advisor for the Care Quality Commission.
In her role as Associate Chief Nurse and Deputy Director of Quality Julie led the patient safety, patient experience, clinical audit and improvement and non-medical prescribing services for the Trust. She also developed The Christie CODE which is a bespoke quality accreditation scheme focussed on celebrating excellence in care.
Julie began her clinical nursing career in 1990 at Salford & Bolton School of Nursing & Midwifery and worked in a variety of roles in surgery and intensive care in Manchester and London before coming to The Christie.
In 2017 Julie became a scholar of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. Julie also has a Masters Degree in Leadership in Health & Social Care, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and an honours degree in Health Service Management & Health Promotion.
