Claire has been a Registered Nurse since 1994, working primarily in surgical and high dependency areas before moving into education, initially as a practice development nurse and then higher education in 2001. Claire is currently working as an Associate Professor in the School of Health and Social Care at London South Bank University, with a specialist interest in patient safety.
Claire co-developed and co-delivers an increasingly popular Deteriorating Patient post-registration module and MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), the first of its kind in the UK, attracting an international audience. Claire leads a Deteriorating Patient Community of Practice and is part of a national working party focusing on the subject.
Claire is also a Doctoral student with a thesis entitled “Nurses’ use of a National Early Warning Score: a phenomenological study”. The qualitative study hopes to explore the perceptions of nurses of NEWS in recognition of acute deterioration.
