Dr Alison Coull is a Lecturer Practitioner at Edinburgh Napier University / NHS Lothian and a Practice Tutor with the Open University. She has an Acute Nursing background, in Burns, Plastic Surgery and Critical Care, and previously worked as a Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist in Acute and Primary Care settings, and is an Independent Nurse Prescriber. Within Higher Education, she has developed and delivered courses in Tissue Viability, Leg Ulceration, Wound Debridement and Dermatology. Her research interests are now largely focussed around leg ulceration, particularly in relation to substance misuse. Alison’s PhD thesis explored leg ulceration in young people who inject drugs, identifying prevalence, risk factors and how harm may be reduced. She currently leads the wound clinic within the Harm Reduction Team of NHS Lothian and has worked within wound clinics caring for people with injecting-related injuries in Glasgow and Edinburgh for over 16 years.
