Lorraine is a dual qualified nurse who has worked within the field of gerontology and dementia for the past 40 years. She is the first Macmillan Dementia Nurse Consultant in the UK providing education and support to staff, patients and carers affected by cancer and co-existing dementia. She is also currently involved in the Macmillan National Expert Reference Group work being developed around Oncology and Older people. Lorraine is passionate about person centred holistic care in order to support people with dementia and their carers. Her life’s work has been about listening and learning from her patients and carers in order to empower them and enhance their care. She sees their relationship as a partnership where one can’t work without the other. Lorraine was winner of the Nursing Times Nurse of the Year award in 2014 and given the title of Queens Nurse a year later. She also reached the International Dementia Nurse Leader awards in 2016 where she was in the top 3 finalists.
