Chief of nursing and allied health professionals,
Dr Karen Roberts joined Macmillan Cancer Support in May 2017 from Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust where she was Head of Quality and Nursing Research. Previously a Macmillan Nurse Consultant in gynaecological oncology and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in palliative care, Karen has extensive and varied clinical, managerial, and research experience.
Karen also graduated in cognitive behavioural therapy in 2009, and ran clinics for women experiencing complex psychological, physical and sexual health difficulties after cancer treatment. She is also an experienced mindfulness-based cognitive therapy teacher, having developed and ran a bespoke 8 week programme for cancer patients.
In her new role at Macmillan, Karen works alongside the Chief Medical Officers and provides leadership and clinical expertise to the charity. A key part of her role is to represent the perspective of nurses and AHPs in all of the charity’s work, as well as engaging with frontline health professionals across the UK. Karen also plays a key role in the charity’s work in contributing to the national work around nursing and AHP workforce, skill mix and new roles in cancer care.
