Fiona has combined senior roles in the NHS, most recently as deputy director of nursing, with a successful academic career. She is currently Florence Nightingale Foundation chair of mental health nursing with a remit of building capacity and strengthening opportunity for nurses to collaborate in, and lead, healthcare research. Her research interests include evaluation of health services, international comparisons of provision and experience of care and developing new roles for healthcare workers.
She is a visiting professor at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, where she has been engaged in research and mental health service development since 2014. She is a Florence Nightingale Leadership scholar and active mentor for aspirant nurse leaders.
