Caroline trained at Guy’s Hospital, London and after qualifying worked in surgery and intensive care until the late 1990s. It was at this time that she first moved into clinical research at the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility in Cambridge as the Lead Research Nurse. It was during this time that she became interested in the education and development of clinical research nurses and was a founding member of the now national accepted Clinical Research Nurse Competencies. She has continued in a number of roles within research, working for the Comprehensive Local Research Network in Surrey and Sussex and latterly as the Head Clinical Research Nurse at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, providing professional leadership and support for the clinical research nurses and midwives within the Trust. Caroline is extremely interested in the area of informed consent within clinical research and continues to be involved in training initiatives for clinical research nurses, most recently being involved the development of the NIHR CRN consent training and Fundamentals of Research programme.
