Abigail is a registered nurse with a background in community nursing, governance and patient safety. She has worked as head of healthcare at Wetherby Young Offender’s institute for 3 years and manage the delivery of the healthcare contract for up to 260 boys aged 15 – 18 years. We deliver an integrated primary care, community and forensic camhs and substance misuse service to young people who have complex health needs and a history of not accessing healthcare in the community. Providing healthcare in a secure environment is very challenging but rewarding at the same time and a major part of her role is to be advocate for both the young people and the healthcare professionals who often deal with daily conflict around health care delivery versus security. Winning the Nursing Times Award in 2017 provided Abigail and the team with the recognition for our work and commitment.
