Katy qualified as a nurse in 1997 and worked in general medicine with the aim, always, of becoming a community nurse. In 2007 she achieved a degree in specialist community nursing and began working for the Community Respiratory Team in Oxford. In 2011 she was asked by Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation trust to set up the Community Respiratory Service that includes Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Home Oxygen Review Service. Since this time she has also obtained qualifications in COPD, Respiratory, Spirometry, asthma and various Management qualifications. Since early 2016 Katy’s role has been as to integrate community respiratory and cardiac services culminating in the development of the Cardiac and Respiratory Specialist Service (CARSS). Katy is the vice-chair of the Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists (ARNS), is a committee member of the National British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Rehabilitation Audit Committee and also the BTS PR Quality Improvement Advisory Group and is on the NICE COPD Update Committee. In 2016 Katy was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse for her commitment to community nursing and is currently on secondment as the long-term conditions services lead for Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
