Nafiza is a highly experienced Nurse Midwife with over 38 years of expertise in health and women’s health. She qualified as a Nurse in 1989 and completed her midwifery training in 2002. Throughout her career, she has held diverse roles as a clinician, educator, manager, and project leader. Her unwavering passion for addressing health inequalities, particularly in maternity care, drives her commitment to creating systemic change both in the UK and globally. As the co-founder of the Association of South Asian Midwives (ASAM), Nafiza works to improve maternity services for women, families, and the workforce while addressing barriers faced by global majority communities. Nafiza has contributed to national initiatives as a panel member for MBRRACE-UK’s perinatal confidential enquiry, a member of the Capital Midwife EDI Advisory Group, and is an active member of the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Midwifery Officer BAME Strategic Advisory Group. She has also served as part of the faculty on the ELEVATE programme at LSBU. In her NHS roles, Nafiza led the establishment of the Maternal Medicine service for Northeast London and worked as the Equity and Equality Lead for NEL ICB. Currently, she focuses on reducing inequalities in postnatal and public health care. Her achievements include an RCM Fellowship (2022), Florence Nightingale Scholarship (2023), and recognition by HRH King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
